City Project - digital photo

Today we have started a new period with digital photo. We are starting off with a small City Project, where the assignment is to deliver a photo or a serial photos telling a story.

I teamed up with Mali, and had a short photo shoot today, just for inspiration and idea purposes. Three chosen pictures is to be presented tomorrow. Our shoot focused around the building we where in, Pilestredet Park 33, and we started shooting at the top floor (11th). When up there, we found ourselves wondering if it was possible to get out on the roof. It would be great to take pictures down, on the building and the ground below us. The "Look down!" version of the "Look up!" piece presented below. We concluded the roof hatch probably had a lock or an alarm, -no good having unauthorized people on top of an 11 stories high building.

The result will be posted tomorrow after the presentation.

As my "Tribute to the City" follows me, I have just put together some pictures from another great autumn day in my beautiful city. Who says Oslo is gray and boring?

Maybe we will use some of this for our City Project. We have only till Friday, so it would be nice having something to work with. -Time will show!

Still life painting

Painting is difficult.. I have not done much of it earlier, so my learning curve is pretty steep. I am working on this still life I have called "Coffee or tea?", and to be honest, I am pretty proud of myself! It is far from finished yet, but I believe you at least could spot the likeness...

By the way, Ludobabe has got her own page on Facebook! -"Like" to get updates on new posts on the blog and other fun stuff.

The Sound of Color or the Color of Sound

Seeing, hearing, touching, smelling and tasting all affect our perception of the world around us. That one can affect the perception of the other is also pretty clear. The nature of the project limits the number of means to the first two. Originally I thought about spelling the color name while the yarn curls its way to show the letters on the paper. I like it easy, simple and clean, but it felt wrong. I wanted to use sound to emphasize the color, its wave and energy.

The colors we perceive are the result of waves of light absorbed or reflected to our eyes, interpreted by our physical eyes and our conscious and subconscious minds. This we know. Waves meeting our ears and interpreted by our physical ear and our conscious and subconscious minds is our perceived sound.  Could I get the sound to emphasize the sensation of the color and the color to emphasize the sound?

The color of music,  or the music of colors, have been explored by many composers, philosophers and artists through time. Some of them have worked with the scale, giving each note a color. I found this overview of some of them on the net.

I want to use the corresponding note to sing the color name in my animation. I have done some reading on some of the different theories on this, and have decided to go for Alexander Scriabin's color keyboard. The keyboard colors takes basis in the circle of fifths from music theory and Sir Isaac Newton's Opticks.

Home decorating plans

I just came up with the best home decorating plan! It will be a great project, -I will paint something on the wall in my kitchen! I'll use the drawing project, and take it a step further. To find and match colors and shapes for my kitchen will be great in many ways. I will get a kitchen that is really me, and on the same time learn a lot about drawing, -in one of the ways I love doing it. I will have to clean my kitchen countertop to show you what I have to work with.

I probably have to take pictures of it as well, and maybe make it into an animation.. Always new projects popping up. Great!

A dressed rehearsal

Today I have been at the Opera house and seen a beautiful dressed rehearsal of the ballet "Woyzeck".

Picture from www.operaen.no

The ballet has its world premiere tomorrow, and it was absolutely amazing! It is based on a play with the same name, written by Georg Brüchner in 1836-37, and is choreographed by Christian Spuck. If you have the chanse - go see it! The scene was beautiful. The use of color, the lights and of course the beautiful dancers in great dresses... I am amazed and very happy to have been there.

Next project - animation!

This week we have started our next challenge. We are to make a short animated film, using the stop motion technique. Stop motion means taking a picture, move something a tiny bit, new picture and then new movement and playing the pictures after each other in sequence to give the illusion of movement. Our course teacher, a guest teacher, showed us a lot of examples of materials and the use of them and was really inspiring!

I have decided to give the illusion of colored yarn writing its colors name. Something like this:

I'll post it when its finished! It is fun!
